Exeter is a historic cathedral city with a food scene that balances ancient tradition with modern, independent innovation. Much like the market towns of the Dordogne, the local culture prioritizes proximity to regional producers, ensuring that the freshness of a catch or a harvest dictates the daily offering. Residents here value the persistence of local bakeries and small-scale bistros over the homogeneity of high-street chains.
